Videologger

Universal recording tool for legal purposes and more

Videologger is a reliable, efficient and maintenance-free 24/7 media logger supporting multiple formats and bitrates — suited to TV broadcasting legal obligations, advertisement certification and the monitoring of TV channels and programmes. It is the system nobody thinks about until a regulator, a lawyer or an advertiser asks.

On-premiseHybridCloud24/7 unattended

Power on and forget it

Totally maintenance free — the oldest recordings are overwritten by the newest automatically. Compression and quality are chosen against the archive space and the logging period you need, and recording quality can go as high as HD broadcast.

Files that open anywhere

Standard multimedia files that play in any ordinary player, so an operator can email a short segment of the ingested material to a lawyer or a client without a specialist tool at the other end.

Evidence that is continuous

Continuous 24/7 recording with no frame loss between file segments — because the disputed thirty seconds will always turn out to be exactly where a gap would have been.

Capabilities

What Videologger actually does

01

Format flexibility, from efficient to traditional

From the efficient DivX and MP4 in H.264 and AAC to the more traditional MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, plus ASF / Windows Media and FLV. Videologger also captures Windows Media or RTMP Flash streaming simultaneously, which allows the encoded A/V signal to be viewed from anywhere over the internet.

Date and time can be superimposed onto the video signal or embedded into the A/V data stream, and a logo overlay provides watermarking.

02

Central storage for multi-channel plants

In multiple-channel systems it is possible to deploy a central storage unit with a high-availability system, rather than putting the resilience on each capture unit. Videologger Copy is an optional add-on that copies files from multiple Videologger servers to centralised storage, providing an optimised and controlled copy service that avoids saturating LAN bandwidth.

03

Monitoring that escalates to a person

System status is constantly monitored by Videologger's embedded tools, and alarms are notified by email or SMS. Alarms can be triggered on disk activity, video presence, video freeze, audio presence, dropped frames, instant data rate, average data rate, A/V stream integrity and server status such as disk space.

Accurate statistics on the capture process and data rates sit alongside, and GPS date-and-time synchronisation is available with an optional receiver.

04

Two ways to get at the recording

The Videologger Player is a Windows GUI giving real-time content browsing from any networked PC, with exclusive simultaneous multi-channel playback for accurate A/V temporal comparison. A calendar window shows available recordings, playback speed runs from 0.5× to 16×, and a go-to date/time function jumps straight to a specific recorded event — including from generic automation log files. Mark-in and mark-out tools with basic editing extract A/V sequences, and fast export or conversion covers distribution and storage needs.

The Videologger Web Viewer gives real-time viewing from any internet browser on Windows, Linux, Mac or any handheld device, with the same calendar widget. Configuring the main router ports allows viewing over the internet from any remote location.

05

Optional interfaces

Shepherd monitors multiple unit status and connected devices, managing hierarchical alarm levels and notification by email or SMS — suggested for multichannel environments — and features automatic system recovery and emergency triggering such as spare unit activation, A/V routing, remote control of an A/V matrix, asynchronous serial communication and GPI.

MediaHive or Synaxis provide archiving and cataloguing for perpetual retention of selected media beyond the logging window.

Deployment

On-premise

Runs on standard enterprise servers in your own plant. No proprietary hardware, no vendor-locked appliance, no forklift upgrade.

Hybrid

Keep the signal path local and move the elastic parts — transcoding, archive, disaster recovery — to the cloud, one workflow at a time.

Cloud

The same build, deployed on the major clouds. Identical interfaces, identical behaviour, identical support contract.

Integrations

It has to work with what you already run

Monitoring

  • Shepherd — multi-unit status, hierarchical alarms, automatic recovery, emergency triggering

Archive

  • MediaHive
  • Synaxis

Sources

  • DVB-T / S / S2 / C
  • ATSC
  • Analogue TV
  • SDI via Decklink and Intensity
  • RTMP
